| SAFETY INFORMATION Following these basic
safety precautions reduces the risk of fire, property damage,
electric shock, and personal injury.
Read this user's guide thoroughly before using this unit.
- If a new circuit or outlet is required for this
unit, wiring should be done by a qualified electrician.
- Follow all local codes, including the use of ground
fault protection, where required.
- Use properly fused outlets.
- Do not modify this unit or use it in any manner
not recommended by the manufacturer.

rooms, or damp basements, or in any other area where
moisture may be present.

or damaged, if the plug is damaged, or if the unit itself

cannot trip anyone.

not less than 200 watts.
- Keep foreign objects and fingers away from the blower

Each of the ELG24 and ELG20 packages contain one base assembly;
two light bulbs; one flame package containing one flame assembly
and three sets of flame strips (each set of flame strips is composed
of one transparent strip and one opaque strip); one log package
containing one front log, one rear log, and three top logs; and
this manual.
CLEARANCE AND PREPARATION
The unit is approved for
installation in any firebox opening that meets the following minimum
dimensions: Front Width - 29" (26" for ELG20), Rear Width - 20"
(17" for ELG20), Depth - 10 3/4", Height - 15 1/2". Fireboxes with
straight sides must be a minimum of 24" wide (21" for ELG20). (See
Figure 1).
Please note that there are no combustion or heat restrictions
on this unit. It can be installed in structures approved for wood
or gas fires, such as masonry fireplaces and wood stoves. It can
also be installed in structures not approved for wood or gas fires,
such as wood or drywall alcoves. The unit should rest on a flat,
solid surface.
This unit does NOT require venting. It can be installed in vent-free
fireboxes, as well as traditional direct vent fireboxes.
This unit comes completely wired. It requires only to be plugged
into a 15 Amp, 120 Volt circuit. it is best if the outlet is located
so it can be reached with the 8 ft. power cord. However, an extension
cord may be used, provided it is rated at not less than 200 watts.
INSTALLATION
- Remove all components from the shipping carton, and remove
all packaging materials.
- Place the base assembly in the firebox, centering it from
left to right. The base assembly may be pushed back into the
firebox until it contacts the rear wall of the firebox, or it
may be left farther forward, if desired. To prevent movement,
the base assembly may be fixed in place by screwing down through
the two holes in its base (see Fig. 2). This is not required,
however.
- Uncoil the power cord, but do NOT plug in the cord at this
time. Establish the path to the outlet. The cord should run
as close to the wall as possible and be out of the way of traffic.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, property damage, electric
shock, and personal injury, the cord must not be pinched or
pressed against a sharp edge. Do not route the cord under carpeting
or throw rugs.
- Install the light bulbs into the light sockets. Hold the
sockets while installing the bulbs to prevent twisting.
- Remove the logs from their packaging. Install the front
and rear logs (see Fig.3). The rear log should be centered left
to right on the base assembly and pushed back until it contacts
the lip on the back edge of the base assembly – the charred
hollow area of the rear log faces forward. The front log sets
over the light sockets and rests on the grate – the cut out
of the front log covers the cut of the front log covers the
light bulbs.
- CAREFULLY open the flame package and remove the flame strip.
Inspect the flame strip to see that the flames are centered
left to right on the flame bar, with their bottom edges aligned
with the bottom edge of the flame bar. The magnetic strip should
be centered left to right on the flame bar and should hold the
flames securely in place. If the magnetic strip or flames have
shifted during shipping, restore them to the proper placement
by removing the magnetic strip and gently moving the flame strips
to their proper placement and finally placing the magnetic strip
back in place.
- Position the flame strip over the blower outlet of the base
assembly, with the magnetic strip facing forward. The flame
bar fits in the slots at either end of the blower opening, and
is centered between the two screw heads (see Fig. 2). BE
CAREFUL not to crease the flames or trap them beneath the flame
bar.
- Place the top logs in the positions shown (see Fig.3). Top
log position is not critical. Top logs can be placed in a position
that is pleasing to your eye. Take care not to trap flames under
logs.
- Plug in the unit and turn it on (see OPERATION below).
CAUTION: TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK MATCH WIDE BLADE OF PLUG
TO WIDE SLOT. FULLY INSERT PLUG. The ember bed should light
up and the flames should stand up and flutter. If there are
problems, see TROUBLESHOOTING below.
NOTE ON LOG POSITION:
The placement of the front log can affect the lighting and look
of the log set. By rotating the front log away from the flames,
more light shines on the flames, making them brighter. If the log
is rotated too far toward the flames, it can reduce the light and
the flames may appear dull. Experiment with the position of the
front log to find the best position for your fireplace.
OPERATION
The ON/OFF switch is located on the front left of the unit. All
functions of the unit are activated through this switch.
MAINTENANCE
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, property damage, electric
shock, and personal injury, unplug the unit before performing any
maintenance or cleaning.
Changing light bulbs:
- Unplug the unit.
- Remove all top logs and the front log.

at least 5 minutes before touching them.

- Unplug the unit.
- Remove the top logs.

- Open the new flame package and check the position of the
flames and magnetic strip (see INSTALLATION, step 6).
- Install the new flame strips (see INSTALLATION, step 7).
- Replace all top logs.
- Plug in the unit.
Cleaning:
- Unplug the unit.
- Keep the blower inlet and outlet free from dust and debris.
- The logs and the ember bed can be dusted or washed gently
with a mild cleaning solution, but allow them to dry thoroughly
before operating the unit.
- The flames may be dusted very lightly, but take care not
to damage them.

are in the blower and that the blower is clean.
- Call your local dealer or Innohearth.
