MODEL EFF36 ELECTRIC FIREPLACE
EFF ELECTRIC FIREPLACE TECHNICAL INFORMATION SHEET
  • When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should always be followed to reduce the risk of fire, property damage, electric shock, and personal injury.
  • Read all instructions before using this unit.
  • This heater may hot when in use. To avoid burns, do not let bare skin touch hot surfaces. Keep combustible materials, such as furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, and curtains, at least 3 feet from the front of the heater and keep them away from the sides and the rear.
  • Extreme caution is necessary when any heater is used by or near children or invalids and whenever the heater is left operating and unattended.
  • If a new circuit or outlet is required for this log set, wiring should be done by a qualified electrician.
  • Always unplug the heater when not in use.
  • Follow all local codes, including the use of ground fault protection, where required.
  • Use properly fused outlets.
  • Do not modify this heater or use it in any manner not recommended by the manufacturer. Any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury to persons.
  • Do not use this heater outdoors, in bathrooms, laundry rooms, or damp basements, or in any other area where moisture may be present. Never locate the heater where it may fall into a bathtub.
  • Do not operate this heater if the power cord is frayed or damaged, if the plug is damaged, or if the heater itself has been dropped or damaged or has malfunctioned. Contact your local dealer or Innohearth.
  • Do not run the power cord under carpeting, throw rugs, or runners. Position the cord away from traffic areas so it cannot trip anyone.
  • To disconnect the heater, turn controls to off, then remove the plug from the outlet.
  • Avoid the use of an extension cord because it may overheat and cause a risk of fire. If an extension cord must be used, it shall be No. 14 AWG minimum size and rated not less than 1875 watts.
  • Keep foreign objects and fingers away from the blower inlet and outlet as this may cause an electric shock or fire, or damage the heater.
  • To prevent a possible fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces, like a bed, where openings may become blocked.
  • A heater has hot and arcing or sparking parts inside. Do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
  • Do not burn wood or other material in this fireplace.
  • Unplug the power cord before performing any cleaning or maintenance to the heater or before moving it.
Please keep this owner’s manual for future reference

The EFF package contains one fireplace assembly; two light bulbs; one flame package containing one flame assembly and three film strips for flames; one log package containing one front log, one rear log and three top logs; and this manual.

NOTE: A 15 Amp, 120 Volt circuit is required. A dedicated circuit is preferred but not essential in all cases. A dedicated circuit will be required if, after installation, the circuit breaker trips or fuse blows on a regular basis when the heater is operating. Additional appliances on the same circuit may exceed the current rating of the circuit breaker.

CLEARANCES AND PREPARATION:

This fireplace has the following dimensions: Maximum Width – 36” Maximum Depth – 13 1/16” Height – 26 7/8”. (See Figure 1) There are no combustion or heat restrictions on this fireplace. It can be installed in any space into which it will fit, provided the area meets the requirements listed under IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS above. This fireplace does NOT require venting. The fireplace should rest on a flat, solid surface.

This fireplace comes completely wired. It requires only to be plugged into a 15 Amp, 120 Volt circuit. It is best if the outlet is located so it can be reached with the 8 ft. power cord. However, an extension cord may be used, provided it is rated at not less than 1875 watts.

There are three options for installing the EFF:

  1. Set the unit against the wall. Space requirements are simply the dimensions of the fireplace (36” x 13 1/16” x 36 7/8”).
  2. Frame the unit in. Combustible materials can be brought right up to the fireplace. However, for ease of installation it might be best to leave 1/8” clearance around the fireplace (framing dimensions of 36 1/8”W x 27”H x 13 1/16”D).

INSTALLATION:

  1. Remove the fireplace from its shipping carton. Remove the log packages, light bulbs, flame strip package, and all packaging materials from the cabinet of the fireplace.
  2. Uncoil the power cord, but do NOT plug in the cord at this time. Set the fireplace in its final position. Establish the path to the outlet for the power cord. The cord should run as close to the wall as possible and be out of the way of traffic. WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, property damage, electric shock, and personal injury, the cord must not be pinched or pressed against a sharp edge. Do not rout the cord under carpeting or throw rugs.
  3. Install the light bulbs into the light sockets. Hold the sockets while installing the bulbs to prevent twisting.
  4. Remove the logs from their packaging. Install the front and rear logs (see Fig. 2). The front log sets over the light sockets and rests on the grate – the cut out of the front log covers the light bulbs. The rear log should be centered left to right and pushed back until it contacts the lip on the back edge of the log set – the charred hollow area of the rear log faces forward.
  5. Carefully open the flame package and remove the flame strip. Inspect the flame strip to see that the flames are centered left to right on the flame bar, with their bottom edges of the flame bar. The magnetic strip should be centered left to right on the flame bar and should hold the flames securely in place. If the magnetic strip or flames have shifted during shipping, restore them to the proper placement. The flame strip comes pre-assembled using two films. One is a yellow transparent film that is painted with a very thin layer of orange paint. The second one is a transparent pink film. There is an extra film of each in the package. Please experiment with the different films and arrange them in different order and choose the combination that pleases you the most. Or use the combination provided by us.
  6. Position the flame strip over the blower outlet, with the magnetic strip facing forward. The flame bar fits in the slots at either end of the blower opening, and is centered between the two screw heads (see Fig. 3). Be careful not to crease the flames or trap them beneath the flame bar.
  7. Place the top logs in the positions shown (see Fig. 2). Take care not to trap flames under logs.
  8. Plug in the fireplace and turn it on (see OPERATION below). CAUTION: TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK MATCH WIDE BLADE OF PLUG TO WIDE SLOT. FULLY INSERT. The ember bed should light up and the flames should stand up and flutter. If there are problems, see TROUBLESHOOTING below. At this point, you can complete whatever drywall or mantle installation work you need to do to finish the installation.

OPERATION:

The ON/OFF switch is located above the screen valance on the right side of the fireplace. This switch activates both the flames and the lighted ember bed. Next to it is the red heater ON/OFF switch. It activates both the blower and heating element of the heater. This switch lights when it is in the ON position. Note: the heater and the log set can be operated independently.

MAINTENANCE:

WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, property damage, electric shock, and personal injury, unplug the log set before performing any maintenance or cleaning.

Changing light bulbs:

  1. Unplug the log set.
  2. Remove all top logs and the front log.
  3. Unscrew the light bulb, holding the socket to prevent bending.
  4. Replace the old bulb with a T 6 ½ intermediate base frosted 25 watt light bulb.
  5. Replace the logs.
  6. Plug in the unit.

NOTE: If the log set has been run, allow the light bulbs to cool at least 5 minutes before touching them.

Changing the flame strips:

  1. Remove the old flame strips.
  2. Open the new flame package and check the position of the flames and magnetic strip (see INSTALLATION, step 6).
  3. Install the new flame strips (see INSTALLATION, step 7).

Cleaning:

  1. Keep the blower inlet and outlet free from dust and debris.
  2. The logs and the ember bed can be dusted or washed gently with a mild cleaning solution, but allow them to dry thoroughly before operating the log set.
  3. The flames may be dusted very lightly, but take care not to damage the flames.
  4. Clean glass and wood as you would for any other piece of furniture.
